I am so mad as I post this and I know some of you can relate (especially my sweet neighbor since she has just dealt with the same thing)!
Let me calm down and start over. For Mother's Day, I got two pretty hanging plants for my front porch. Within 2 days, a bird had already built a nest in one of them and for the last 3 days, each time I look in, there has been a new egg. This morning there were 3. Tonight, as I was on my way up to bed, I looked out the front window and there was a cat sitting on the ledge of my porch standing up to get into my plant. I ran outside and scared him off and looked in the nest. There is only one egg left. I looked around and there are tiny broken egg shells on the rail and on the floor of the porch. If I had a gun, I would have killed the cat then and there! (sorry all you cat lovers!) This black and white cat has tortured poor Sophi for months now and will sit in our yard and look at her knowing that she is locked up in the house. That was bad enough but now this??
Besides just being absolutely angry at this cat, I also just wonder if Mama bird is now mourning her baby that was yet to be hatched... I don't know if animals have feelings like that or not. I know that God cares for them too but I'm just so sad for mama and papa bird.
Sorry about my ranting. It has been a while since I posted and I needed to get this out of my system. Everyone else in my home is asleep right now so I needed an outlet! I'm also going on about 5 hours of sleep which I don't handle very well. Maybe I can borrow another trap and catch this cat and take it far far away....

well...I can say from experience that the larger of the two traps WILL hold a stray cat.... :)
There is a leash law in Pelham for cats. Call city hall and see if the same applies for cats. Then I would catch that cat and call them and ask them what to do with it.
Poor baby birds :(
I am right there with you with cats Ronda... poor baby birds...
we have the same issue!
we found "birdy" eggs in oour yard & thought our babies had hatched...nope! these stray cats ate them...
i'm mad, too!
have you called city hall? these strays are fast & vicious...can you just see us w/night vision goggles on?
i feel like i need a "stake out"--i mean,, i'm thinking these peeps taht catch strays are maybe retired, etc...(i know, bad joke), but really, we need some muscles & a plan to catch these wild little beasts!

ok, cats on leashes just make me laugh...
i've seen cats on leashes & the cat looks as if he/she is going to meet eyes with you & say, "i know, i know, leashes are for dogs, but my owner made me"
